Rockford New Play Festival (RNPF) is a joint effort of The West Side Show Room and Rockford Area Arts Council. Currently in its very early stages, the general purpose of RNPF is to galvanize the local theatre and arts community around new plays. The festival is under the direction of playwright Nathan Alan Davis and director/producer Mike Werckle.
RNPF’s first public event, held on August 14th, 2014, was an evening of 10-minute plays at Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center. For this inaugural event, the Festival received a total of 111 submissions from playwrights throughout the U.S. and as far away as New Zealand. The staged readings were a rousing success, playing to a full and enthusiastic house. Those playwrights not able to be in attendance were given private access to a recording of the their play’s reading.
10-min. play submissions are currently being accepted for 2015.
